5 Airlines To Commence Commercial Services At Anambra Airport

Five companies were approved to begin operations at the Anambra Airport located at Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
On Saturday, Anambra State Governor Chief Willie Obiano announced this when he officially inaugurated the new Anambra International Cargo/Passenger airport, Umueri.

The airlines he listed be Airpeace Nigeria Ltd, United Nigeria Airline Ltd, Dana Airline Ltd, Ibom Airline Ltd, along Anab Jet Ltd.

Obiano said that Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Mr. Musa Nuhu has already given certificates of commercial flights.

He added that the authorities demanded that authorized airlines have facilities at ground level to provide comfort to passengers. However, contrary to public expectations for commercial aircraft to take off on the day of the ceremony, no plane landed.

The airport, rated by the government of India as having facilities as being among the top airports in Sub-Saharan Africa, has a 3.7 km runway and 34.4 meters of the control tower.

The governor expressed his satisfaction with the airport. Happy with the opening of the airport, which came after nearly 30 years since the beginning of Anambra.

“Since the creation of Anambra, previous administrations have tried to build an airport, but we thank God that we were able to achieve the project,” he declared.

The president urged Anambra residents to be supportive of the operation of the airport to keep it running.

M. Marcel Ifejiofor, the state Commissioner for Works, said that the airport took about 20 months from the beginning to finish.

Ifejiofor, who mentioned different airport facilities, stated they have the most modern facilities contrasted with other nationwide airports.
